Bruce A. Ware was born and raised in Spokane, WA, by Christian parents who were committed to Christ, to missions, and to the work of their local church. His one sibling, his older sister Bonnie Pickens, has been a pastor’s wife all of her adult life. Bruce was educated at Whitworth College (BA), Western Seminary (MDiv, ThM), the University of Washington (MA), and Fuller Theological Seminary (PhD). He has taught theology in several leading evangelical colleges and seminaries for over 30 years. Since 1998 he has served at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky where he is the T. Rupert and Lucille Coleman Professor of Christian Theology, and chairman of the Department of Christian Theology. He came to Southern Seminary from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, IL, where he served as Chairman of the Department of Biblical and Systematic Theology. Prior to this, he taught at Western Seminary, Portland, OR, and at Bethel Theological Seminary, St. Paul, MN. Dr. Ware has written numerous journal articles and book chapters, and he has edited several books, among them are Still Sovereign (co-edited with Thomas Schreiner), Perspectives on the Doctrine of God: 4 Views, and One God in Three Persons: Unity of Essence, Distinction of Persons, Implications for Life (co-edited with John Starke). Among the books he has authored are the following: God’s Lesser Glory: The Diminished God of Open Theism; Their God is Too Small: Open Theism and the Undermining of Confidence in God; God’s Greater Glory: The Exalted God of Scripture and the Christian Faith; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit: Relationships, Roles, and Relevance; his theology book for children, Big Truths for Young Hearts: Teaching and Learning the Greatness of God; and The Man Christ Jesus: Theological Reflections on the Humanity of Christ. He has served as the president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (1999-2003), and as the president of the Evangelical Theological Society (2009). Bruce and his wife of 39 years, Jodi, have two daughters, Bethany and Rachel, and three grandchildren, Ella Rose, Gavin Edwards, and Ainsley Kate – the children of Owen and Bethany Strachan. He and Jodi love drives in the country, hikes in the woods, walks on the beach, time with their daughters and grandchildren, along with reading and good music.
